More questions for Goeff, Valueman, JMD, whomever:
In view of the deteriorating speed of the net and the implications
for potential fixes, do any of you think the direct receiver type modems(e.g., what Adaptec has announced ala our Lorfaq board, thanks to Goeff et al)? I noticed that one comment referred to that solution as likely to be aimed at businesses only.
What if any is to be the likely solution for us the little folks at the end of ragged old copper wires? I found out about the cable modem of @Home and called them to find out my area in Seattle is months away at the earliest.
My question is ultimately aimed at the outcome of Cyberstar, of course.
Does anyone have access to the comments recently referred to on the AOHell board about the unfeasibilty of Teledesic. I am a neurologist by trade, in the brain business I mean, and the technicalities of the Teledesic system seem to be mindwarping even to the likes of the complex goo wrapped in wet toilet paper that I have to deal with( a metaphor of one of the more colorful mentors in my field).
Comments by the more informed heartily welcomed. Thanks, Jim Black
