>>...SUN has contacted Ed twice about a buyout, and he rejected them without discussion (much to the chagrin of some of the stockholders at the time).<<

Very interesting Marc. I did not know that. Although it figures right into Sun's current attack on SGI's visual computing turf. A topic of discussion on this very thread last week. Could it be Sun is now saying with their present marketing blitz? "We could have ruled the world together SGI! But you had to turn us down. Now we're in your face!!" Maybe not in those exact words. Given McNealy & CO -probably a lot less amiable-.

I'm with you on Ed's credibility shortfall. However, you also noted:

>>...to the extent that there was a suit filed against him.<<

Did you mean against CO? Or was there also a suit filed against Ed personally? Such is the case in some corporate law matters.

>>SGI still has great engineers and makes great equipment, but has had a mangement ego problem for the last 18 months.<<

That's pretty much the consensus lately. As far as their ego problem goes, what kind of feedback are you getting now? Any changes since their fallout? Has SGI hired a new Sales VP yet? btw: I had dinner last week with an SGI rep/acquaintance and you would never know the CO was in dire straits from talking with him. "MIPS still the hottest chip on planet, Cray technology best thing in SGI hw pipeline, current problems with -market- not company, best products in the -universe-, expect a complete turn-around in 12 months". All this -before- we lit the peace pipe! So the big quesiton is -How is SGI going to fix their problems if they don't know (or care to know) what they are-???

Not-so-random ramblings from a once SGI believer.
