It appears that one of the big guns is stongly behind GenRad. On January 9, 1998, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Discover & Co. filed a Schedule 13G with the SEC. According to this filing, the beneficial ownership of accounts managed on a discretionary basis reflects the following:
a. Accounts managed on a discretionary basis by Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Discover & Co. hold 2,782,813 shares, or 10.20%
b. Accounts managed on a discretionary basis by Morgan Stanley Asset Management Limited hold 2,608,418 shares, or 9.56%

By way of background, any person or group of persons who acquire a beneficial ownership of more than 5% of a class of registered equity securities must report such acquisitions to the SEC within ten days. Schedule 13G is the prescribed form that banks, broker/dealers, and insurance companies use. All others use Schedule 13D.
