The people you don't seem to understand (engineers) are mostly right wing, if you don't know. Just honest bill-of-rights conservatives, in the main, which is a real small subset of the right wing. Meanwhile, the company you love best, and the right wing in congress, are the new best friends of Chinese-style communism. Having abandoned Taiwan to the wolves. MSFTs antagonists seem to want the return of capitalist competition into the Windows market, and MSFT supporters seem to want anything but true competition. If you were to consider just the grounds for this debate, you would have to say that the people you call liberals are actually acting as traditional conservatives. The MSFT supporters are often taking an Anarchist or Libertarian stance, neither of which can be ascribed to either right or left. Perhaps a few could be described as feudalists, with a hankering for the return of provincial strongmen as final and autonomous authorities. Chaz
