Chile's Tribasa to issue $220 mln in bonds

SANTIAGO, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Tribasa Chile said Wednesday
it will issue $220 million in bonds to finance construction of
a highway.
Alajandro Magni, general manager of Tribasa Chile, which is
a unit of Mexico's Grupo Tribasa SA , said the bond
will be used to finance the building of a highway from Santiago
to the town of Los Vilos, north of the capital.
The bond will be issued in the local market and will be
underwritten by Bank of America. The bond issue is part of a
new local bond market system announced Tuesday by the
government to help finance the projects of companies that win
road concessions.
Under the new bond system, the underwriter guarantees the
issue while the road construction process is under way. Once
the highway is completed, income from highway tolls guarantee
the debt payments.
The government will additionally back coupon payments
through the minimum income guaranteed in the concession.
Magni said the maturity of the bond would be no longer than
23 years, the span of the concession. He gave no further
details of the amount or maturity of the issue. The bond will
be launched in the second quarter of 1998, he said.
