China aside, the U.S. telecom industry mostly tries to avoid innovation and competition to keep rates absurdly high relative to the service provided. A farm family in rural South Korea can get a gigabit internet connection that is unavailable in most U.S. cities. Telecom in the U.S. has mostly great expertise in lobbying and much less in technology.
