Jeff I have only looked at one recordable CD ROM drive and will look into the rewritable as you mention. Thanks for pointing that out.

As far as DVD goes I think your points are valid at the time, but think that will change substantially in the next six to twelve months. And since they are backwards compatible to previous CD ROM drives and will run all my currently owned CDs, I figure it best to get it as part of the main system. BUT they'll probably come out with writable ones the week after I buy mine and I'll regret it.

I've got my preliminary specs. written up and have been shopping them at the box maker's Web stores. CPQ & HP are out, they can't provide the configuration choices I'm looking for. That leaves Dell, Gateway and Micron (I have two Microns and love them). It is surprising how you can configure each brand so as to compare apples to apples. Dell beat the other two in price everytime.

Thanks for the speaker input I was wondering if I should go with the Altec 295s or the 495s, I do a lot of late night work on the PC and like to play music CDs while I do it, I'll leave those 495s in my specs. for now.

Thanks,

Scrapps
