Reg -

If this is so, why do customers openly choose to buy MSFT OSs instead of Mac and UNIX. John Dowd is right, the tech crowd want to complain about MSFT products as they are on their way to the store to purchase them.

The reason MSFT products are so popular is because they've used uncompetitive practices to crush other companies - see Sal's posting about Netware and Chaz' response. They've also unfairly taken advantage of their position as the OS vendor to enhance their position as an application vendor.

I remember when SGI bought A|W. One of the conditions of the sale was that A|W would have to keep on producing products for other platforms, had to release them at the same time, and had to provide the same functionality. If MSFT had to do this, Reg, they wouldn't be in the position they're in today, and you know it.

BTW : I've never bought a MSFT product. They're just not worth the money.
