Ah yes. A favorite gripe of mine: the "education degree". Ironically, someone with a good liberal arts B.A. can't teach in most public schools because s/he lacks those all-important courses in "statistics" (how to give grades) and "child psychology" (usually not very rigorous or helpful). Never mind that this person might actually possess some knowledge.

When I was in high school (in the sixties) all but one or two of the male teachers had "majored" (silly term, in this case) in gym. They all wanted to be phys ed teachers, and all were, in fact, coaches of something or other. Only two phys ed teachers were really required, so the others got to teach stuff like history and psychology. Most of 'em didn't have a clue about anything except football. THIS practice, if it continues, should be outlawed absolutely.
