Christine,
You say you have read Randy Shillts' "And the Band Played On" but then go on to make the statement that you don't know how it relates to mainstream media disinformation. Christine, m'thinks you are playing dumb, and that is beneath you.
I went to the websites at the links you provided, and I have only this to say: Anyone who finds it necessary to employ sensationalism to further a cause has lost me right there, no matter how worthy or how right the cause and no matter whatever else they have to say on behalf of the cause. They have lost me. Period.
The middle link you give holds forth with a more balanced, objective presentation of the abortion issue, but even it needs some clarification as to context. I will say that the tubal or ectopic pregnancies mentioned at that website are not all that rare. In fact, they are quite common. An open abdominal or laparoscopic procedure--not D & C or D & X is standard treatment for ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy is usually detected very, very early in the course of pregnancy, because the woman is in such excruciating pain. Intrauterine fetal demise or death also is a more common occurrence than most would care to know. Anencephalia (literally, no brain or cranial contents) and other fetal/birth defects incompatible with life are less common but do occur. When you look at the big picture, it is nothing short of a miracle that any of us made it here. <vbg>
To compare hysterotomy (an open abdominal procedure which involves cutting through three layers of tissue--skin, fat, muscle, and then suturing those three layers separately ) with a D & C or D & X procedure is ludicrous. As you can see, an open abdominal procedure is invasive and puts the mother at far greater risk than do the others.
Again, I am NOT giving my opinion of abortion. I am merely stating the facts from a medical standpoint. I will say that decisions with respect to any medical procedure should left up to the patient and physician, and I do not believe the government has a rightful place in this decision-making process.
BTW, two of the links you provided lead to only one actual website--the one using graphic horror effects--and that is propaganda on your part. That, too, is beneath you.
