This escapes the RW media machine.

This was not trivial.
The Trump media machine has made all past history obsolete. Anything that was said and done more than 24 hours ago is fake news. The only think that matters is what it says on Trump's twitter feed today.

I think this way of thinking has made a lot of classic Republicans very uncomfortable right now, although there still are many that are buying into it.
