"Simple question, simple answer." That piece that you say left the stock showed up in my cash holdings, or could have been reinvested. Tax advantaged account, so what did I lose? Losing something on dividend day seems to be your central theme, so what was lost? Understand that you don't lose anything on that day, and you might realize what the total return charts are showing.
