Gee, Thomas, I have hundreds of tapes and CDs, ranging from blues to reggae to early San Francisco hippie music to Celtic and ancient music and just about everything else mixed in there somewhere--country,classical, jazz--everything under the sun. Talking about diversity, I like the Kronos Quartet, the Flaming Groovies, Django Reinhardt and Asleep at the Wheel!!
I said I liked to listen to new music in that post, and am actually adamant about not growing into an old fogey about music. In fact, I still cringe when I think of ancient aunts and uncles listening to thirties music in the sixties. I promised myself then I would not get stuck on the music of my young adulthood, because it is a sickening spectacle for those who have to observe someone living in the past.
However, when someone asks about my very favorite songs, they have to evoke an emotional response. You know, when you hear the first chord, you turn it way up and start boogying, even if you're driving the car (my daughter almost dies of humiliation when I do this). So even though there were at least two nineties' songs on my list, some of the stuff I chose was older. How old are you, incidentally? I think almost everyone forms very favorites in their late teens and early twenties, when music is so incredibly important.
Anyway, sure, I would love some suggestions on more good listening. I don't want to be an old fuddy duddy ever!!! |
