Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the Democratic controlled House of Representatives won't authorize President Trump to give his State of the Union speech in the body's chamber on Jan 29 as scheduled because of the partial government shutdown. The House's extraordinary disinvitation, made public in a new letter, could set up a potentially explosive confrontation if Trump tries to enter the House. Alternatively the president could give his speech from a different location or postpone it until the government reopens. Pelosi said she would be willing to welcome the president to the House on "a mutually agreeable date for this address when the government has been opened."
