Wayne -
Took a tour of the local (Nebr) Walmart, Target, and ToysRUs.
Walmart - Lots of peg space - lots of tank, sub, casino games. Bass fishin', lunker, deep sea all sold out.
Target - Also lots of peg space - a major change from pre-xmas indicating Target experienced substantial sales with these products. Pegs for nearly every game were being put up and filled a week ago. Yesterday, tank, sub, bass fishin', lunker, deep sea all empty, and only three Jr's(2 after I bought mine) left.
Toys - Unbelievably, only two pegs on a twenty foot wall for Radica - Tank, sub, both nearly empty. All other pegs - Tiger, etc. full and in many cases drastically marked down.
To some extent all games are fads, hot for a while, then cold for a while. But some have staying power. For example Monopoly has been around forever. As long as there are people who fish, fishing games/toys will be around. With the various bass fishin' type products, Radica has covered the niche pretty well. The fact that these products continue to be hot sellers after xmas speeks to their continued real popularity.
What can we conclude from this? 1 - This is likely to be a very profitable year for Radica 2 - This is likely to be a very profitable year for Target since they seem to have their eye on what sells. 3 - The local management at Toys R Us ought to be fired, and if I were stockholder I'ld sell.
