Don't some market makers play games with the bid/ask prices, creating artifical selling or buying pressure? I'll bet that is the case with less active issues, <30,000 share average volume.

MM empty their portfolio at the end of the day and buy it back the next morning. I presume they have an equal aversion to risk as any.

Hey maybe Market Makers are Human after all!
