He’s also a brilliant strategist as you’ll see by the interview with John Roberts below. Mulvaney makes it clear that there is a plan for what’s to come on border security and President Trump is ready to implement it. The plan includes declaring a national emergency if Democrats don’t accept the bipartisan committee’s solution on border security by February 15th. Mulvaney declared in the interview below that “at the end of the day, the president’s commitment is to defend the nation and he’ll do it either with or without Congress.” President Trump spoke about declaring a national emergency during his speech on Friday: “So let me be very clear: We really have no choice but to build a powerful wall or steel barrier. If we don’t get a fair deal from Congress, the government will either shut down on February 15th, again, or I will use the powers afforded to me under the laws and the Constitution of the United States to address this emergency. We will have great security.” Having a bipartisan committee decide what’s needed at the border takes the decision out of the hands of everyone and places it in the hands of the experts who know what’s going on at our southern border. This is a great move by President Trump because it puts pressure on Democrats to approve the plan.
