Stitch:

A tighter credit policy is needed in SE Asia. More importantly, though, a credit policy that is independent of politics and corruption is critical.

I do not think there is any easy solution to the inevitable social unrest, except perhaps uprising that engenders Kim DJ's in the SE Asian nations. Suharto has created a destructive political process so as to thwart opposition leaders like Megawati Sukornoputri from taking over the helm of Indonesia. There is a lot of popular resentment against Suharto, but there is also a fear for the corrupt and ingratiating military that backs him. It is a difficult situation, but I do not expect chaos.
