"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1.
So begins the book we call the Bible. This passage, of course, presumes the existence of God. If you are one who either doesn't believe there is a God or are just not sure, is there a way that you can come to know that there really is a God? I believe there is.
Begin by considering the creation. That is, take a look around yourself and consider what you see. Can you really imagine that everything is merely random? I find it hard to even conceptualize that everything is merely random. Doesn't there seem to be a plan? Doesn't everything seem to have an intelligent force behind it? I believe it does.
Consider the archaeologist. When an archaeologist sifts through ancient ruins or though dirt looking for artifacts, what does he or she look for? The archaeologist looks for items which appear to have some design rather than just being random. For example, if an archaeologist finds an arrowhead it is obvious that it was designed by an intelligent being since it has purpose and its design furthers that purpose. And what does finding an arrowhead tell the archaeologist? It tells him or her that an intelligent being (a human) must have made the item and it confirms the fact that a human was, in fact, present. By finding the item which was designed and created with a purpose, there is confirmation of the presence of the intelligent creator behind the item.
Look around yourself as an archaeologist might. Do you see evidence of an intelligent design? By seeing the thoughtfulness in the design, you can be sure that there is an intelligence behind it. Could you imagine an archaeologist a thousand years from now finding a 747 aircraft and not believing that it was made by an intelligent creator? That sounds absurd, doesn't it? Since even a leaf on a tree is more complicated and more beautifully designed than a 747, why would you have any doubt that a creator was behind the design of that leaf?
The creation is not God, but the creation points the created to their designer - God. God is real and He is alive today. What is more, He knows and loves His creation. You were wonderfully created by Him and he even gave you a very special gift - you were created in His image. He loves you dearly. He has left evidence of His existence all around you because He wants you to know that He is real. Look and you will see it. I pray that those who read this and who do not know their Creator will come to know Him.
