The NC World Network-Centric Computing Awards

This year, we give two awards and several honorable mentions to those companies that have contributed most to the cause of network-centric computing. If you're expecting Oracle to top the list, you're in for a surprise. Oracle deserves praise for its evangelism, but IBM has done more for network-computing than any company we know. Likewise, NCI, Star Division, Acorn, Applix, Citrix, Corel, Sun, and many others deserve kudos for their work in 1997.

We're tempted to create a Most Courageous Correction award just for Corel's decision to rethink its approach to Java and its office suite in 1997. The new strategy, as described in our interview "Horse's mouth: Corel clarifies its short and long term Java strategies," makes much more sense and holds more promise for Corel and customers alike.
