Jim, sorry, but it's pretty Mickey Mouse for IDTI to blame their short revs and profits on the PC business. I haven't heard any of the PC makers complaining. If you say Compaq, they are cutting prices in the same kind of power play move they pulled in, I think, 1993. It's the old sink prices and watch some of the rats desert the ship game. My perception of the posters to this and most "semi" SI groups is that most of them don't understand the semiconductor business (don't mean you, Jim). It has been a cutthroat mean you, Jim). It has been a cutthroat business all the way back to its youth, when companies like Fairchild, Transitron and Sylvania were major players. Yes, this was before Intel was born. Well, you won't see the first three company's names on any chips these days. Why? 'Cuz they're dead. To me, among IDTI, ISSI, ALSC, CY, INTC (built in cache) and other USA companies; Fujitsu, Hitachi, Toshiba and other Asian makers there are too many in the SRAM pie. Someone has to go, and it ain't gonna be Intel aor any of the Asians. Liz |
