*OT* re "Always get a SCSI scanner". I don't agree. My friend bought a $149 UMAX scsi scanner, 300x600 optical resolution. After about 6 hours of struggle, he finally got it to work, but it would not work with his existing SCSI card..he had to use the scsi card that came with the scanner, plus leave the scsi card in that went with his Zip drive. After he finally got it to work that way, I used it. A week later I went out and bought a $249 IBM parallel port scanner, 600x1200 optical resolution. After reading the setup instr., I went into the PC setup screen (pressing <Del> key at boot-up) and set the port to ECP "Extended Capabilities Port". Next I just plugged everything in, with the printer cable plugged into the pass-thru port on the scanner. Works great, and also I can't tell any speed difference when scanning, compared to my friend's scsi scanner. If anything I think mine is faster - but they both take less than 1 minute to scan a 4"x6" photo.
