This whole business of "where can Microsoft go today" being dictated by extra-industry eggheads and politicos is lame. Please indicate in any way where the politicos have attempted to dictate where MSFT can go today? They have never suggested that MSFT cannot integrate IE into any MSFT OS. Only that if they do so, they must also provide customers a choice so that they can opt out of the browser integration, possibly replacing the browser with a different one. This is something that can be done in other industries. If I buy a car and want a different radio than the built-in one, I can easily replace it, and the replacement can be integrated into my car without any loss of features due to proprietary extensions built into the car that only work with the built-in radio but not the replacement. But MSFT refuses to go along with providing this capability. They have to be given an ultimatum: Either provide standard APIs so that others have the same capability of integration or else the government will do it for them.
