Jane, if I might add, many devout prophecy studying Catholics, believe John Paul II will be the last "official" pope. Many believe there is a movement within the Vatican and other liberal (media, political, NWO) circles to have him removed, either on the grounds of health, or otherwise. From my reading, a pope has been forced out approximately 30 other times in the history of the Catholic Church - not recently - but it has happen before.
Also, in Rev. 13:11 John wrote, "Then I saw another beast, coming out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon." The beast, as identified as the false prophet, has been identified by some Catholics, as a false pope, or anti-pope. The two horns represent the two "points" on the head piece that the Pope wears. The two points of the head piece represent the two natures of Christ - one divine and the other human. This false pope will wear the garments - like a lamb - but speak like a dragon.
These Catholics that I've discussed this with, expects that when this false pope comes to power, there will be a split in the Catholic Church, as well as in all denominations. The splits will be along the lines of the traditional Judeo-Christian values and belief in the divinity of Christ vs abortion, homosexuality, humanism, new age, etc. This false profit will promote, with the help of the world's liberal elite, a new world church that accepts all the new enlightenment thinking.
I don't know if John Paul II will be the last official Pope or not. I hope and pray God's peace will remain and all Christian denominations will continue serving Christ faithfully until His return.
