Philips Semiconductors/Acquisition: First In Software

DOW JONES NEWS 01-16-98
> Dutch giant Philips Electronics NV is looking for small acquisitions in the software and design fields, according to a leading company official.
> Philips Semiconductors Chairman Arthur van der Poel told Dow Jones the group is 'scanning the market for two areas. We are interested in
companies in, for example, software and design and also in firms with
processor or embedded memory know-how.'
> Van Der Poel couldn't specify how much the Eindhoven-based company
intends to spend on such acquisitions. But he explained that 'in
general, those are not big companies. But if they might help us to do
our job better, we might enter alliances or make acquisitions.'
