Taxes were too high, so there was some justification for the cut. It not just tax rates that are too high but also federal revenue as a percentage of GDP is high.

Also any time the Democrats come in to power they are likely to raise taxes (recent presidents and congresses that is, Kennedy and the congress back then cut taxes but that was a long time ago). Tax rates should not be on a one way ratchet up, if Democrats are going to raise them whenever they are in power then Republicans should lower them at least about back to what they were before the raise.
