Motorola Awarded $40 Million To Deploy Four CDMA Networks
in Mexico

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 19, 1998-- Motorola, Inc.'s Cellular Infrastructure Group
(CIG) today announced it has finalized an agreement totaling nearly $40 million to supply Code Division Multiple
Access (CDMA) digital cellular phone technology to four different operators in the northern regions of Mexico.

The agreement with Baja Celular Mexicana (Bajacel), Movitel del Noroeste (Movitel), Telefonia Celular del Norte
(Norcel) and Celular de Telefonia (Cedetel) will mark the first commercial deployments of CDMA (also called
cdmaOne(TM)) in Mexico, covering a total population of about 20 million people.

Motorola CIG has already begun to deploy its state-of-the-art SC(TM) 2450 CDMA base station equipment in the city
of Monterrey. Motorola CIG's high-capacity EMX(R) 2500 and EMX 5000 switches will also be utilized in the
enhanced networks.

CDMA digital cellular service will provide subscribers with enhanced voice quality and call quality that virtually
eliminates static and cross-talk. CDMA will enable subscribers to enjoy additional service features such as enhanced
messaging capability.

''Bajacel, Movitel, Norcel and Cedetel have demonstrated their progressive vision by choosing to bring CDMA digital
cellular service to their customers in the four northern regions of Mexico,'' said Jack Finlayson, corporate vice
president and general manager of Motorola CIG's Americas Cellular Infrastructure Group. ''Now, CDMA subscribers
in the U.S. and Mexico will experience seamless roaming coverage across their respective borders.''

Motorola CIG deployed the world's first commercial CDMA system in 1995 in Hong Kong. Currently, the company
has more than 90 agreements to provide commercial and trial CDMA systems across the globe.

''We are pleased to partner with Motorola CIG in the introduction of digital CDMA cellular services in Mexico,'' said
Eduardo Vazquez Arroyo, CEO and president of the four service regions. ''This state-of-the-art system will put our
companies at the forefront of mobile and fixed wireless communications services in Mexico, before the other existing
cellular operators and before the new PCS operators to come. Proven CDMA voice clarity, privacy, enhanced capacity
and a robust set of features will distinguish our service offerings.''

Bajacel, Movitel, Norcel and Cedetel are cellular operators whose service regions border with the United States in a
dynamic and fast growing area of Mexico. The four regions are anchored by the cities of Monterrey, Tijuana and
Juarez whose economic and industrial development, bolstered by the Maquiladora industry, contribute significantly to
Mexico's GDP.

Motorola, Inc. is one of the world's leading providers of wireless communications, semiconductors and advanced
electronic systems, components and services. Motorola's 1997 sales were $29.8 billion.
