You brought up Intel, not I. And I don't disagree that spending 2.5% on buybacks (for them) is not insignificant. But again, my point is that I don't believe S&P (or Dow) companies can afford to buyback *ALL* their earnings, which is what you imply with 4-5%. I would love to see your figures to the contrary, however.

(but I do think it's a stretch to consider R&D and CapEx as dividends :)
