it was very shortsighted to play into Time Warner's expectations, assuring them that all could be done with the PowerChallange and that generation's disk, I/O and software. the immediate result was a few great quarters and a lot of premature hype, that when it flopped, scared off a rational buildup by the cable and telco folks. today there is software and hardware more suited to these ambitions, but few will commit to more than dabbeling. and TW financial officers i've talked to say they've learned their lesson. TW let SGI lead the design, today the attitude is that vendors adgenda's and timeframes may not be in the best interests of the customer. Ramsey's Silicon Studio is another abortion from that era that did lots of damage as it fouled developer relations and spooked customers. vincent
