somewhat off topic

Sometimes I really wonder if all these investments, all these money and all these talks about how to make a few dollars more really matter. I was wathcing CBS's 60 minutes last night and their first story was about Algeria and how local terrorists (whether they are the government soldiers or Islamic fanatics) attack villages and eliminate entire families by cutthing their throats, burning them alive or just killing them as if a chiken is being cut in pieces. They had this man whose children were slathered in front of his own eyes and a 12 year old girl who watched and heard the screams of her entire family being slathered, and then they showed how barbaric these attacks were. Pregnant women being slathered with their stomach opened and the throat of the baby inside cut, and little 2 and 5 years old babies thrown in the fire live, and.... It is unbelievable. I can not think of one animal in nature who can do such things and yet human beings as so called the superior animal of all are capable of and willing to do such crimes against one another.

And then it seemed the whole world goes on living as if nothing happens. The stock market opens tomorrow and we all start worrying about a couple of points drop in SUNW or MSFT or whatever, and talk about it, while at the same time some guy half way around the world is still trying to come out of the shock of seeing his children's head being cut off by some terrorists in front of his own eyes. And yes I know, even I who am in real sorrow and shock after hearing and watching such news stories will eventually get over it and get back to my own life. And perhaps that is the saddest part of all. No one really cares. And nothing seems to matter anymore but our own little worlds and concerns...
