I agree with you on the promos. But I doubt that this study is accurate in finding out if really half of netflix users would quit. We can only make assumptions on what netflix users would feel about this and I think that the sentiment would definitely be more negative to having unskippable or even skippable ads, and real ads, on their shows. Luckily for us I doubt that netflix will ever add these adds to the platform.
