For teams on a losing record, no point to remain a fan. Life is sorry enough, no point to make their bad performance another sour moment. In the early 80s, I was a Lakers fan, watching on TV nearly every game --- Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Byron Scott, James Worthy, ... almost every year they went against Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, ... of Celtics for championships. After leaving the SoCal, I still watched them whenever their game was on my local TV for a few years. I have no favorite sports or team any more, I mostly watch the English Premier League Soccer games now.
