Barrick (ABX-T) Two reports this morning indicate Barrick Gold, fresh off combining with Randgold Resources, has considered taking a run at Newmont Mining — which has its own deal in place to buy Goldcorp. According to our Bloomberg News partners, Barrick has "looked on and off at the feasibility" of bidding for Newmont, possibly with Australia's Newcrest Mining as a partner. Meanwhile, The Globe and Mail says Barrick is "actively working" on a bid (possibly hostile) wherein it would divvy up Newmont's assets with Newcrest — and leave Goldcorp on the outside looking in. Lots of moving parts, and Barrick is declining to comment. Newmont shares are up ~four per cent pre-market. BNN.ca
