I think there is also one other thing to point out.
On Wall Street Week. The tech analyst that Lou was interviewing mentioned that one of Oracle's problems is that it lost its main focus. He specifically said that Oracle got on this beat MSFT kick and did not pay as much attention to its core business as it should have. Remember all of ORACLE's talk in the not so distant past about thin clients, buying APPLE and operating systems and the like? You don't hear Ellison pounding the table like he used to on these matters.

The jist of the problem is reiterated near the bottom of the CFO's letter: "In summary, our biggest problems have been that we haven't always single-mindedly focused on our applications business like a pure applications company and we have several spotty quarters which our competitors have used to confuse the outside market whenever they can."

Unfortunately, it would appear that they are not quite willing to take full responsibility for all missteps since Oracle says that "we have several spotty quarters which our competitors have used to confuse the outside market whenever they can." If Oracle does what it does best it will be in control of its own fate. If it goes spinning off helter skelter it is not its competitors (which I read primarily as MSFT, SAP and a couple of others) that are the problem, it is ORACLE.

Regards,
Brian
