I thought so too, but I don't know if that's ever happened before in Oscar history, for a picture to win both Best Picture and Best Foreign Language Film the same year.

I think there are too many of the old guard in Hollywood who don't want to vote for a Netflix or Amazon movie unless they play by the traditional rules of big screen films –– giving long, exclusive releases in theaters before letting the film be available via streaming. Both AMC and Regal theater chains refused to allow Roma to play in their theaters because Netflix wouldn't give the typical 90-day window to them.

Cannes has already banned Netflix from participating in its festival.

Eventually these rules are likely to change over time, but it will be a fight.
