IMO, the Dems need the rich - because someone has to have deep enough pockets to keep enriching the Dems. Each prominent Dem needs at least a few big rich guys, to pay for their campaigns, help them with their investments (like Tyson's lawyers helped Hillary). And so on. Staying corrupt doesn't come cheap.

As for taxes... they don't need the rich quite as much as they used to. They've discovered the greatest golden goose ever -- printing bonds and selling them to bankers all over the world... aka, infinite borrowing. They think it will work forever. That's why Dems like AOC or Kamala Harris seem not to understand questions about how they'll pay for their fantasy projects. OF COURSE we can afford it!!
