yes, exactly! My preferred model is not to Ban people, but just to put them on my Ignore list, and I only do that when their posts have no information other than insults in them and they do it repeatedly, even after I've asked them not to several times.
You know you, James, locogringo and a few others are all thinking along the same lines as I did. You know how I post about freedom of speech a lot. It's one of my top issues. I worry a lot about the censorship of conservative speech on social media. Even on SI, it's very easy to get banned from any of the political threads, if you post things supporting Trump. So this is the only thread where no one worries about getting banned. I started worrying that some crazy liberal was going to get SI to make them the moderator, since we have an inactive moderator currently, and then they would ruin the thread. So I thought to be pre-emptive and ask for it myself, so I could keep the thread wide open.
Anyway, we'll see how the vote goes. If more people vote to keep it unmoderated, I'm ok with that. Although, I will continue to worry that a Socialist will take the thread and start censoring people. Maybe I opened a can of worms. But this is an interesting experiment, nonetheless! |
