I appreciate the article and I've read that before but it didn't say why certain states receive federal assistance. One of the reason is population. Red states are less populated so don't have the tax revenue to maintain infrastructure and social services. If you look at the big cities in the red states they are generally run by democrats requiring more assistance. It's not that simple though. I live in a blue state lead by a Republican.
