James; I think your analogy is flawed. It might apply if you bought after market piston rings and it scored the block, but the radio line is fused, and has no interface to any electronics.
However MSFT might have justification if another vendors product was well known to scramble the registry, MSFT might well say no product support it you install that, and make sure they warn about it in their sales stuff.
I can see MSFT not wanting to explain others recurring problems again and again.
