One of the ways you can spot pseudo-science a mile away is when defenders of it level personal attacks against those with alternative views.

No true scientist would do this. Scientists understand that there are varying views and opinions and they have to be worked out over time through experimentation and The Scientific Method.

When one scientist starts attacking another personally, it is a smell, a giveaway, an indicator you may be looking at a pseudoscientist.

Here is an interesting commentary on how a real scientist feels, after the fact, about finding out he was wrong (brief, but significant). But you have to listen start to finish to get it:
