Janice, It is an autoimmune disease. Where the body fights against it self. There are many in this catagory, Lupus, Scleroderma, Etc.... I don't think it has anything to do with a low immune system. I don't think stress would cause it. Something triggers in the body, I have heard some believe chemical exposure could be a link.
