I agree

<<Short-term capital gains rate, marginal or aggregate, is not near 50%, especially with the tax law changes.>>
COuld you rec your accountant to me. I live in California. When you add State taxes even after giving effect to the deduction you are getting pretty darn close. In addition it is the tax defferal that is almost as valuable as the differential in rate. I would be interested in the how the BS model deals with this.

<< Many investors and traders (and, I suspect, the vast majority of SI subscribers) have tax-deferred, tax-free (I can say that now with the Roth IRA), or tax-advantaged accounts.>.
Good point. Indeed it would make ore sense to be a more aggressive trader in an IRA or other tax deferred account since eventually you will be taxed at the short term gain rate and you have the benefit of tax defferal. .

<< I'd rather have 50% of ten points of trading gains (or five, or two, or -- gulp -- zero) than the returns LGND have provided over most holding periods you can select over the past two years.>>
The difficulty is making the trading decisions. Most people are not good at it. Obviously it is too early to tell on LGND. In my experience development stage biotechs tend to move quickly either up or down based upon news. You have to bee awfully nimble to catch the upwing or aviod the falling knife.
