Hello Paul,

Judging by the enthusiasm around Merced, it seems that it could spark a rapid migration from 32 to 64 bit operating systems. Earlier, you explained how concurrent OS development can take place with the help of IA-64 simulators. I am now trying to assess how this would impact the application developers. It seems to me that the impact to the application developers is minimal (i.e. recompile under the new 64 bit compilers with some trivial changes, if any). Is my assumption correct? If it's correct the application developers are going to benefit greatly by re-releasing 64 bit versions of their existing software with minimal cost to them. They don't even have to worry about the IA-64 software simulator.

Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Shahen Petrosian.
