Vg - Re: " intel's the biggest product release for 1998 is not any fastest Microprocessor ? It's the bus speed on upcoming systems to 100 MHz"

The 100 MHz 440BX Chip set, to enable 100 MHz bus speeds, will be big - and will happen before mid-1998. Probably end of Q1/early Q2. The chip set (it's a single chip !) is functional and production has already commenced.

The faster microprocessors will be enhanced even faster with the 100 MHz external speeds.

My prediction is that about an hour after the release of the 440BX chip (set), there will be a clamor for bus speeds faster than 100 MHz.

Intel can do it -- but DRAM makers have to speed up SDRAM cycle times to less than 7.5 nS.

Sometime in 1998 I expect Intel to introduce a chip (set) that will support RAMBUS's RDRAM interface - for x86 processors. This will add another boost to system performance.
