Okay, here I am! DRUM ROLL!!!!!!

Number-one pet grammar peeve: Using "myself" in place of I or me. I cringe when I hear someone say, "This was done by myself," particularly when I know thirty other people were involved. And I about go into apoplexy when I hear, "This was done by my partner and myself." It literally hurts my ears!

Then there is the misplaced modifier one sees and hears frequently--even in the most august of places. To wit, "I only have three books." To me, this says that this unbelievably destitute person posesses nothing in the world other than three books.

I could go on, but I think you get my drift. Besides, I am in mortal fear of overlooking a typo or other some other error which would be unforgivable on this thread. <vbg>

BTW, in the case of self-improvement, I would hyphenate it, as you can see I have done. <another vbg> My sources are the "Chicago Style Manual" and Becky Brown.
