The Fed elected Obama in his second term. Do you remember how Obama's approval ratings were sinking quite dramatically in September and October, right before the election? Well, I do. I voted for Romney and I thought he'd win for sure, given the trajectory and antipathy towards Obama by his base in the 2nd term. Obama was losing a lot of centrist voters to Romney. Then in came the Fed and announced QE3 in September 2012, and it was the biggest one yet. They literally flooded liquidity into the markets and bought boatloads of bonds, which stabilized the markets and set the stock markets moving pretty good from then on out. The Fed loved Obama and ensured his re-election. Powell seems to be a bit more hawkish, but I was surprised by his recent capitulation to the stock market. I wonder what he'll do in 2020? We're going to be in recession either this year or next. Let's see if he is as supportive of the President as Bernanke was of Obama.
