Hi Ted,
I think you will really like SI, take things with a grain of salt, watch out for the sharks(promoters) and get to know a few people(at least if their suggestions are any good) and you will do OK. Im a Canuck, originally from Montreal, however have lived all over Canada, I sure envy you for the weather!

As far as convertibles, I try and find companies I like which won't go bankrupt and don't mind holding to maturity, I ONLY buy exchange traded debentures because I can put a bid in and get it filled. I usually use limit orders for most things(usually good for 30 days as what my broker allows). You can get price info on the Nasdaq traded debentures, not sure about NYSE.
Anyway, take care and keep in touch,
Scott
PS: I own some Eagle (EAGLG)NASDAQ and Phycor (PHYCH)NASDAQ which I like the potential and running hedges (modified) on both of them..
