Rory, sounds like you are in the west or southwest. I too am an @Home user and I love the service. I have the same cable modem and pay the same monthly fee. I also enjoy extremely fast uploads and downloads depending on net traffic at the time.

Right now I am pretty satisfied with the service but there are a couple of drawbacks I see. I maintain AOL as my ISP as well because I use a laptop. If you are mobile and have a laptop, you need to rely on your modem when you are away from home. There is no way to access @Home or their @Home website via the modem. It is a definite drawback if there are features you want to access on their site.

Another issue of concern is security. You are in essence hooked up to a network and the security issue is more of a concern with @Home then an ISP via the modem. It is not difficult for someone to access your files or your harddrive.

The third problem is ONLY ONE computer can be hooked up to your home. In our home we have a couple of computers and only one can be connected to cable.

In my home, my puter won hands down ;>

I would not give up the speed and convenience of the cable. I enjoy it tremendously. However I do see room for improvement in the abovementioned areas.
