Well, the Venezuelans voted for Socialism, now they have neither Capitalism nor freedom, because they now have a Dictator. Voting for more centralization never really ends. It is a one way ticket until all the power is concentrated so much that it becomes easy for a Dictator to take over. Voting for Capitalism is a vote for decentralization, which puts more power in the hands of the people. Yes, it can be chaotic and it absolutely does have some bad aspects to it that need to be regulated (monopolies, regulatory capture, tragedy of the commons, etc), but it is still proven to be the system that has created more wealth and general prosperity than any other in history. So the historical record gives Capitalism a resounding thumbs up as compared to Socialism, which has resulted in over 100 million people killed and mass poverty to take place, as in Venezuela and Cuba. Those aren't mistakes. Those are features of Socialism.
BTW, my family lost everything in a Socialist country and I went to Catholic school here in the states where the priests fled a Communist country. So I know all about those two systems and their failures. Why are all these people fleeing Socialism and Communism to come here, if those systems are so good? Why are all the Latin Americans putting themselves through amazing hardships to try to make the journey and then sneak across the border, if the Socialist systems they are leaving are so great? The answer is pretty obvious. They are terrible on people, so people leave if they can and suffer if they can not.
The answer is to clean up the corruption, break down the monopolies, repeal Citizens United, get the lobbyists and dark PAC money under control, reduce regulatory capture by beefing up the regulatory bodies and ensuring they are less political, and reducing the influence of the Fed, which is really at the heart of the problem in our economy with all their money printing that only benefits the asset holders and not the 99%. |
