This is one more example of WDC continuing to have a cost advantage over its competitors, based partly on the value of the Japanese yen to the dollar. Seems to me that a lot of investors ignore this key exchange rate and the advantages it gives to WDC over its competitors, at least in regard to solid state, non-volatile memory.

If I read this correctly, you are saying that WDC gains margin based on the current YEN/USD exchange rate, which if true, would conversely mean that WDC loses margin when this exchange rate is not favorable. The reality is that WDC does not gamble on exchange rates, and hedges its yen obligations. So there is neither an advantage, nor a penalty, as the exchange rate fluctuates between favorable and unfavorable.
